Mental Health Targeted Case Management Trainings

Session 1 - Case managers will demonstrate increased knowledge about the characteristics of the people they serve as well as an enhanced skill set in order to provide adult and children’s case management services. This training is designed to assist the case manager in integrating equity and person centered practices into their everyday work with the people they serve. Estimated time = 4 hours

Session 2 - Case managers will demonstrate increased knowledge of the tools needed to do case management with adults with a serious and persistent mental illness and children with a severe emotional disturbance. This training is designed to assist the case manager in recognizing how to use the skills in their everyday work with the people they serve. Estimated time = 4 hours

This training, provided in five modules, plus an overview module, will guide you through the basic understanding on providing targeted case management to persons with a mental illness. Estimated time = 12.75 hours

While this training is geared to the AMH TCM audience, supervisors are asked to encourage all case managers to view this trainings through the eyes of a generalist. AMH and CMH targeted case managers complete the case management activities discussed in the training modules.

This training program is designed for professionals in the mental and substance use community. It may also be useful to others with interest in supporting people with mental health conditions to live well. This training program supports learners in understanding the value in trends toward person and family-centered approaches in Minnesota. It provides context to this movement that is Minnesota specific and helps learners support the vision of the Minnesota Olmstead Plan. The content provides both context and enhanced skills in these approaches and practices.

This training has 8 lessons, and 8 supporting quizzes embedded to establish competency. Estimated time = 10 hours

​​​​This course is designed to help AMH and CMH targeted case managers and others who work with youth under the age of 21 and families understand more about the range of autism services and supports in Minnesota. The objectives are to help differentiate between CTSS, EIDBI and other services for children with autism, and identify appropriate services for children with autism when making referrals for children and families.

Estimated time = 1.0 hours

​This training was developed to assist case managers in providing services to people from cultural backgrounds different than their own. This course should be viewed as a way of working with all individuals - not just youth or adults with ASD.

The course goals:

• Increase awareness and sensitivity to the needs of people from diverse communities
• Recognize that cultural responsiveness is critical to providing effective care
• Observe that without understanding unique cultures, it is difficult to provide a quality experience
• Acknowledge the importance of culturally responsive care:
  • Directed by the cultural responsiveness training mandate
  • As a guide to your interactions and the people you serve

This training is appropriate for all AMH and CMH targeted case managers who work with individuals from various racial and ethnic backgrounds. 

Estimated time = 3.0 hours

The functional assessment (FA) is required for the targeted case management services paid for with Medicaid (MA) dollars. This on-line training is designed to provide a basic understanding of the purpose of the FA as well as the opportunity to learn the skills needed to complete a FA. Estimated time = 6 hours

While this training is geared to the AMH TCM audience, supervisors are asked to encourage all case managers to view this trainings through the eyes of a generalist. AMH and CMH targeted case managers complete the functional assessment.

Children’s Mental Health and Juvenile Justice staff work closely with and within the Child Welfare system. Often, case managers work in multiple service areas within their agency. The goal of this training is to provide the partner service areas with working knowledge of the State of Minnesota’s Child Welfare system.

This training is solely appropriate for CMH targeted case managers. Estimated time = 1.5 hours

This training is for Targeted Case Managers who would like to know more about how to complete a housing focused person-centered plan for individuals who will be accessing housing stabilization services. While this module was intended for housing consultants, you will learn that your role as a targeted case manager is similar in developing a housing focused person-centered plan. Estimated time = 35 minutes

This training is appropriate for CMH targeted case managers who work with transition aged youth (18 – 21 years of age) and all AMH targeted case managers.
