The goal of Adult Day Treatment (ADT) is to reduce or relieve the effects of symptoms associated with a diagnosed mental illness and provide skills training that will result in the person to live in their community. ADT is a short-term, community-based mental health program services consisting of group psychotherapy, rehabilitative interventions, and other therapeutic group services provided by a multidisciplinary team. ADT services are linked to goals and objectives identified in an individual’s treatment plan which will lead to improvement in functioning impaired by the symptoms of the person’s diagnosed mental illness. As a result, the individual will experience stabilization of their mental health status while developing and improving their independent living and socialization skills. The ADT multidisciplinary team is under the clinical supervision of a mental health professional.

Process Instructions for New or Expanding ADT Service Applications

ADT Providers must receive approval from DHS Behavioral Health Division (BHD) prior to delivering services. If you have more than one business location providing a service, you must follow the new enrollment instructions for each site. Billing for ADT services may only begin after your enrollment with Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP) has been approved.
New or expanding ADT Provider Organizations must undergo a Qualitative Review within 12-18 months after being approved. Failure to complete a Qualitative review will impact the status of the ADT Provider organization and the ability to expand future ADT services or service locations.
MHCP Provider Eligibility and Compliance may require an annual ADT county-vendor contract, if applicable.
