Children's mental health providers

Children need access to a range of services

DHS is working to ensure that children get the right care at the right time in all parts of Minnesota.

Minnesotans need a range of mental health services in order to:

  • Receive the most appropriate care
  • Be served in their own community
  • Not be referred to more intensive—and more costly—care than needed.

Children's therapeutic services and supports (CTSS) is a flexible package of rehabilitative mental health services to meet the needs of each individual child. CTSS provides varying degrees of care for children and youth who require more than psychotherapy alone to return lost capabilities and restore them to normal development.

School Linked Mental Health Programs connect or locate effective mental health services with schools and students. They work to:

  • Increase accessibility for children and youth who are uninsured or underinsured
  • Improve clinical and functional outcomes for children and youth with a mental health diagnosis
  • Improve identification of mental health issues for children and youth

Early childhood services grants provide mental health services to young children, ages birth to five, with a focus on uninsured and underinsured families in order to meet the needs of young children and their families.

Children’s crisis services are teams of mental health professionals and practitioners who provide psychiatric services to individuals within their own homes and at other sites outside the traditional clinical setting. Mobile crisis services provide for a rapid response and will work to assess the child, resolve crisis situations, and link the child to needed services.
