DirectCourse online classes

DirectCourse is a learning management system that provides online courses to help you support people with disabilities, their families and professionals who work with them.

The Minnesota Department of Human Services provides free and low cost access to the College of Direct Support, the College of Employment Services and the Person-Centered Counseling program.

Certification opportunities

The Department of Human Services and the University of Minnesota have created DirectCourse learning modules that are available to help license-holders provide competency-based training for their staffs around 245D license training requirements.

Please fill out the DirectCourse request form to sign up for courses. After you submit the form, you will receive an e-mail with detailed enrollment instructions within a few days.

DirectCourse provides access to hours of training.

People and organizations can customize learning plans based on their unique needs and preferences with support from experienced learning administrators from the Department of Human Services, the University of Minnesota and Elsevier DirectCourse staff.

Free and low-cost options

Organizations may set up learner and administrator accounts for a licensing fee based on the number of learners they have:
- Fewer than 60 learners: $545 per year
- 60 to 119 learners: $1,060 per year
- 120 to 199 learners: $2,130 per year
- 200 learners or more: $3,220 per year.
The following people may set up their own account for free:
- Organizations that serve nine or fewer people with disabilities
- People with disabilities and their families
- Direct support professionals and caregivers
- Professionals who serve people with disabilities
- State, county and tribal nation employees.
For their annual licensing fees, organizations receive:
- On-demand support directly from DirectCourse staff
- Administrative permissions that allow them to:
  - Customize learning plans for their staffs
  - Create and assign training modules
  - Document individual training competencies
  - Generate organizational training reports
  - Access many additional functions of the learning management system.

- College of Direct Support trains people, families and staff to help make life in the community a priority for the people they support.
- College of Employment Services offers courses designed for people who support people with disabilities as they find jobs and encounter challenges.
- College of Personal Assistance and Caregiving offers a limited number of seats for both experienced caregivers and family members new to assisting others. Classes will give them the knowledge and skills to provide care at the highest level, in line with best practices.
- College of Recovery and Community Inclusion offers a limited number of seats for community mental health practitioners as they work to expand opportunities for those they support to fully integrate into and participate in their communities.
- Person-Centered Counseling Program gives staff the knowledge and skills necessary to implement person-centered planning principles and practices for everyone they work with.
