FAQs: Purchasing food online with EBT benefits

No. Only food benefits can be used online at this time. Another payment type is required to purchase items that are not SNAP-eligible items, and to pay for delivery or other fees. Visit the Food and Nutrition Service website to see eligible food items.

The federal government has to approve retailers and grocers to accept online purchasing of eligible food items with EBT food benefits. 

Each store has different policies to order food online. Check with your local store or visit a store's website for details.

You can access the balance of your EBT card by logging into your account through ebtEDGE or by calling 888-997‑2227. 

To access the cardholder portal, use a browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Google Chrome to visit ebtEDGE and select “Cardholder Login.”

Download the ebtEDGE mobile application.

The login page for both the cardholder portal and mobile application will ask for a user ID and password. If it is your first time using the cardholder portal or mobile application, you will need to create a user ID and password, and set up three security questions.

Instructions on how to set up your account and to link an EBT card to your account can be found by selecting “Login FAQ here” on the ebtEDGE cardholder portal or mobile application.

When you order online, you must still bring your EBT card to the store to pay for your order. In most cases this means going into the store to pay. When you both order and pay online, you should not need to go into the store to pay and, in some cases, may have groceries delivered directly to your door. You can only pay online through approved stores, but you can order online and pay at the store through any retailer that has this option and accepts EBT payments at the store.
