As of Sept. 30, 2021, children’s residential facilities and child foster residence settings licensed by the Department of Human Services (DHS) or the Department of Corrections (DOC) have been required to follow the background study requirements in this document: DHS-8512 (Background study changes for children’s residential facilities and child foster residence settings). The laws changed in 2020 but were not implemented until fingerprint-based background studies resumed in September 2021. DHS-8512 was updated in November 2023.
