African American Child Well-being (AACWB) Unit

The AACWB unit is working toward the elimination of racial disparities and disproportionate over-representation of children and families of African American or African heritage within Minnesota's child welfare and foster care system. It does this by identifying those child protection policies and practices that contribute to disproportionality and disparities. The unit also leads in reimagining and rebuilding a more equitable child welfare system designed to meet the experiential and cultural needs of African American communities. The unit was established by the department's Child Safety and Permanency Division in 2020.
