Drug program

The drug program provides access to HIV-fighting medications, also known as anti-retroviral medication. It also can provide drugs to help fight infections associated with HIV to help fight medication side effects and other conditions associated with the medications.

The drug program can also cover some vitamins as long as they are prescribed by a doctor. If you are unsure whether a drug is covered, you can contact Program HH Customer Care at 651-431-2398.

Program HH pays for all medication associated with treating HIV and conditions that can be associated with HIV. However, you may have other health conditions requiring medication. Program HH does not cover every medication your doctor may prescribe.

You can easily check whether a medication is covered by checking the ADAP Drug Formulary or by calling Program HH Customer Care at 651-431-2398.

Most pharmacies provide services for persons on Program HH. If there is a local pharmacy you want to use, you can either present your prescription at the counter or call ahead to confirm they provide services for Minnesota Health Care Programs.

The pharmacy will need your Minnesota Health Care Program card and your insurance card if you have insurance.

If you have a problem at the pharmacy picking up your medication, call Program HH Customer Care right away at 651-431-2398. Problems can happen for a number of reasons and Program HH Customer Care will work with the pharmacy to identify and resolve issues as they arise.

Persons on Program HH will have a $1 to $3 co-pay per prescription. This co-pay amount should not exceed $12 per month. You may have other prescriptions that are not covered by Program HH.

If a drug is not covered by Program HH, you will be responsible for the full price or co-pay if you have insurance.

If you are traveling, you can request a vacation override, which would allow you get six weeks' worth of medication. You need to be at least 16 days into your current prescription before you request the override. To get a vacation override you must call the Recipient Help Desk at 651-431-2670. The vacation override will allow you to get another 30-day supply of medication.

Program HH cannot provide more than six weeks of medication through the vacation override. If you will be gone longer than six weeks, you can have a family member or friend pick up your medication and ship it to you. Program HH will not cover the cost of shipping and is not responsible for any lost packages.

Program HH will only fill medications based on a 30-day supply. If you are on the drug program without insurance, you will only be able to get 30 days' worth of medication at a time.

If you have insurance that allows you get a 90-day supply of medication and Program HH is paying for your medication co-pays, you can fill your prescription for 90 days but Program HH will only pay the co-pay for a 30-day supply.

Program HH will help veterans with co-pays associated with medication on the HH Formulary. If you are a veteran and enrolled on the HH Drug Program, you will need to submit copies of your co-pay receipts for reimbursement.

If you experience problems taking your medication or have medication side effects, you should contact your physician or pharmacist immediately. If you have ongoing issues taking your medication on time or you are missing doses, you can get help from a pharmacist to help you with medication therapy management.
