Notice about recent data breach involving some DHS clients

On November 18, 2022, a DHS employee accidentally sent copies of billing statements related to approximately 4,307 individuals enrolled in Medical Assistance to an individual client who had requested their own data. The information did not contain any Social Security Numbers, banking information, or credit card numbers. We have no evidence that this information was actually viewed, downloaded, or misused. The parent who received the billing statements in error called DHS to report receiving the wrong information, and also agreed that they would delete the email sent in error and destroy the information they received by mistake.

On January 11, 2023, we sent letters to individuals whose information was mistakenly shared, letting them know of this incident and what they can do protect themselves. We value the privacy of the people we serve, and will continue to work with our employees and partners to prevent data privacy incidents.

You can find more information about this incident and our response by reading the letter sent to individuals who may have been affected by this incident or by calling (651) 431-4270 or (833) 630-2268.
