Michelle connected with Arc West Central Housing Access Services staff through her case worker in Clay County. Michelle was interested in purchasing a mobile home that was located in Brainerd. Budgeting help showed Michelle that she couldn't afford to move into the home, so Michelle began working with Arc to find a home she could afford.
When Michelle was ready to move she was able to use support from the Community Alternatives for Disabled Individuals Waiver (CADI) waiver program in her own place.
After pursuing several possibilities, Housing Access staff was able to work with Michelle to locate an apartment that would also accept her dog. Arc Housing Access Services staff helped with an application fee, security deposit and the paperwork needed for approval of the apartment. Staff worked with Michelle to locate a bed for her new place via their relationship with The Arc thrift store.
“I am thrilled to be in this beautiful apartment and Lady (my dog) can stay with me," Michelle says.
