Mary Ann Dalbey of Minneapolis has benefited from grants DHS administers with funding with the Legislature. She and her late husband received nursing visits and respite care services from the Longfellow/Seward Health Seniors program. When Dalbey's husband was ill, a volunteer stayed with him while another volunteer helped her get groceries and the medical supplies her husband needed. Today, Dalbey continues to receive services and also remains an active, long-time member of the organization's board. A poet, she keeps active too as a member of three writing groups she attends with the help of Metro Mobility. She also writes for the newspaper at her senior housing cooperative.
Longfellow/Seward Health Seniors is a recipient of Community Service/Service Development grants, which are designed to help older adults remain in their own homes by expanding the home and community-based services system and increasing support for caregivers.
